do you have a diagram of crustal plates movement?

im doing a worksheet from school and forgot my textbook….its a fill in the blank worksheet that shows a picture of crustal plate movement with lines pointing to different parts….i just have to fill in what parts are what.

Waterproofing Basics: Liquid Moisture Movement Mechanisms

Waterproofing Basic mechanisms of movement Moisture (part 1)

a) influx through discontinuities on the building.

This is the most powerful mechanism of moisture movement and could cause catastrophes.

Rain or groundwater potentially can penetrate through discontinuities such as cracks, joints, penetrations, etc.

Main driving forces are the gravity and wind.

More massive water penetration happen – in descending order of priority – through:

– Basements

– Flat roofs

– Pitched roofs

– Facades.

Water penetration in basements can assume dramatic proportions in the case of floods and / or hydrostatic pressure buildup.

Waterproofing in such cases should be combined with the effective surface drainage systems and groundwater.

Discontinuities need to be sealed with special sealing flexible construction or cement mortar. Except for a good waterproofing may need a bricklayer.

The only encouraging fact is that these events are sporadic and usually affect only limited areas of the buildings:

b) absorption or capillary suction.

This mechanism mostly – though not exclusively – found in the basement. The humidity is bad liquid slowly and steadily through the capillary system of porous building materials like concrete, masonry, etc.

This is the dominant mechanism in the basement for the discontinuities when they are absent.

Capillary absorption can evolve laterally or upwards defying gravity.

It is a molecular phenomenon. Polarity of water molecules that are enforced very well to most building materials. Also very coherent, which means that strong cohesion forces develop between them. Cohesive forces are even more powerful in the water surface and say that water has a high surface tension.

How has the phenomenon?

In phase no1

large molecular adhesive forces between water and pore material pull water molecules from the walls of the pores.

In phase NO2

surface tension water assumes full responsibility for maintaining the upward movement.

The surface tension tries to keep intact the membrane surface elastic theory by "force" molecules on the surface to follow the "lead" molecules on their upward movement.

2.3 Imagine that you launch links in a chain on the edge of a precipice. The gathering momentum in the relays and the whole chain goes down.

The narrower the pores, the greater the height of the water column.

Gravity eventually limit the height.

Over we call rising damp the capillary suction way in which we have on the whole movement upwards.

And finally, please check the great irony:

It is the tension surface that prevents concrete and masonry leak like sieves!

Logic dictates that the tiny water molecules – Diameter of 0.28 nanometers – to pass freely through the huge – 2500 times larger – the material pores.

Surface tension creates groups of molecules and reduces the ability of wet water. A touch of hydrostatic pressure acts as a catalyst for the process of wetting.
