Where do I go to convert silent 8mm film to a more current medium?

I have all of Dad’s home movies (from the 1960’s) and have been given the responsibility (from my 10 other siblings) to “preserve” the footage on DVD (for example) but I don’t know where to go or what questions to ask in making that conversion. I am talking abou the film that came on small reels and were then threaded onto the projector and shown on a screen (or wall) (or bedsheet). All suggestions/referrals will be appreciated. I have found only ONE website that seems trustworthy and guarantees that the original film will NOT be ruined in the process.

call camera and video shops. if they don’t do it they can point you in the right direction. I got a quote on this about 10 years ago (from a camera store) and it was something like $30 for every 5 minutes, but technology is different now and it might be cheaper.
