HOW DO I INSTALL A DVD-ROM Drive and A CD-RW Drive?
WE STARTED HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE CD WRITER,
IT WAS SAYING WE HAD NO CD RECORDER, SO WE DID FACTORY RESTORE AND IT STILL SAID THERE WAS NO RECORDER. THEN WE WENT THROUGH HELP AND SUPPORT AND IT SUGGESTED WE TRY REGISTRY EDITOR AND IT STILL DIDN’T WORK SO WE DID A FACTORY RESTORE AGAIN AND THAT ONLY MADE THINGS WORSE BECAUSE NOW MY DVD DRIVE DOES NOT SHOW UP AT ALL NOR CAN I PLAY ANY THING IN THAT DRIVE AND MY CD-RECORDER DRIVE SHOWS UP BUT I CAN NOT ACCESS IT….. AND NOW I AM AT A COMPLETE LOSS… PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH AND I GOT HELP FROM HP AND THEY TOLD ME TO USE THE CD THAT CAME WITH MY COMPUTER WHEN I BOUGHT IT TO INSTALL THE CD RECORDER BUT I DONT THINK IT CAME WITH ONE… I THINK..
Did you install the DVD drive yourself, or did it come with the computer? If you did it yourself, make sure that you have the correct master/slave settings on the drive.
All CD & DVD drives today use the IDE (aka EIDE or ATA) interface to connect the drive to the motherboard. Many hard drives in computers also use the IDE interface. Most motherboards come with two IDE channels (IDE1 & IDE2), and each channel can support 2 drives (master & slave). The master takes priority when the motherboard communicates with both devices on one IDE channel.
The IDE cables are those flat/wide cables that have a connection on each end & one in the middle. If you have two devices connected to one cable, then one of the devices must be the master & the other must be the slave. If you have both as master, then it probably will cause problems.
You can change the master/slave settings with tiny plastic jumpers that are next to the connections on the back of the drive. You will have to refer to the user’s manual to make sure you have the right setting. If I remember correctly, a jumper placed in the far left position is master, and a jumper placed in the next position to the right is slave, but it may depend on the manufacturer.
